A Peasant of El Salvador is the riveting, touching and powerful story of a hill farmer and his family in El Salvador during the 1980s – where the sweat is salty, the feuds are bitter and the corn is sweet!
We follow the story of a peasant named Jesus who has a big heart, a big family and a small piece of land. The peasant, one of hundreds in the same situation, patiently waits for things to change in the face of a military dictatorship, sweeping land reforms, death squads, guerilla warfare and unprecedented repression.
The presentation of the play uses the help of three narrators who take us on a journey of a time and place far removed from us, and yet bearing striking similarities to the agrarian and economic situation in India today.
Premiered at Prithvi Theatre, Bombay – September 2013 | Worked on over 25 performances till 2015 in Bombay, Kochi, Pune, Ahmedabad, Ketty, Coonoor at theatres, art galleries, educational institutions
